What's Wrong With Obama's Speech to the Students?

There has been much much criticism and speculation surrounding President Obama's speech to America's students. What will it be about? Should he being doing this? Should parents be mandated to have their children listen to the speech? With the exception of one school district (Broward County, FL) Obama's speech was optional in most school districts.

My observation of the speech? It was great. Like many of his previous speeches, this was another outstanding speech by the President. Now that we've heard what he had to say, will all the commotion be over? I think not..At least not for me.

I feel better now that I've heard the speech and seen that it was not a partisan speech. It was a great message for students to hear. My problem, as it has always been, is with the manner in which the administration went about preparing for the speech, and the timing of the speech. Sure, other Presidents have given speeches to students, but never on the first day of school (for many schools) and never with so little advanced warning to school officials to prepare. It kind of gives the impression that they wanted to rush this, much like health care in Congress, and not give parents or faculty the chance to make a choice.

I also have an issue with the administration advising teachers on different activities they could have students do to prepare for the speech. This is where the indoctrination argument comes into play. It is also very disrespectful to teachers across America. Basically telling them how to come up with a curriculum as if they, as professionals, cannot, or are too incompetent, to come up with a curriculum on their own.

To want students to write about how they can help the president is wrong, immoral and just plain indoctrination. Had my daughter been old enough for this, I would have sat down with her and taught her why we should do all we could to stop some of the things that this president wants to do with America. And to speak to kindergarten students? C'mon, their minds are so impressionable at that age. He knew what he was doing, and it wasn't just for encouragement. High school and junior high students are one thing, but 5 year olds?

If the president wanted to address students he should have done it at a different time, without the accompanying curriculum (indoctrination) suggestions.

The Judicial Branch Does Not Legislate!!!

The judicial branch of government does not legislate, that job is supposed to be the responsibility of the legislative branch of government, you know, Congress. This is what I was taught in middle and high school and now in college. Apparently Obama's leading Supreme Court Justice candidate, Sonia Sotomayor, does not agree with that teaching, or the Constitution.



"Court of Appeals is where policy is made"!?! Where the hell does Obama find these people. This administration wants to talk about the rule of law and the Constitution yet considers people like this woman, people with complete disregard for the Constitution, people that think this is something to laugh about, for one of the highest positions in the United States judicial system and government. Judges like Mrs. Sotomayor are exactly what is wrong with our courts...The Judicial Branch DOES NOT Legislate!

Iran Proves Again It Cannot Be Trusted

FoxNews.com-"Reporters Without Borders says the American journalist on a hunger strike for two weeks to protest her imprisonment in Iran was briefly hospitalized after she intensified her fast by refusing to drink water."

Interesting, I thought she was not on a hunger strike? That's what the government of Iran told the world, "Iranian Judiciary spokesman Alireza Jamshidi, however, was quoted as saying on Tuesday by ISNA that she was in 'good shape'." PressTV.

It amazes me that someone, who is in "good health" and not on a hunger strike, would have to be hospitalized because of a lack of water. Either the water was not being provided, or the journalist, Roxana Saberi, really is on a hunger strike; either way Iran is lying.

Iran has continued to prove that we cannot trust that government, from the kidnapping of British military personnel to the comments about "wiping Israel off the map" to the ridiculous 8-year sentence of this woman. Even after all these things the Obama administration, and many more on the left, want to take a weaker, more "diplomatic" approach. They want to take some of our options off the table. With a hateful regime, such as that of Iranian President Ahmadinejad, we cannot afford to take any options off the table. I can only hope and pray that the Iranian people wise up and get this animal out of office. For their sake, and the sake of the world.

FoxNews Says NO Just Like GOP?

I recently came across a blog post by another blogger on the other side of the political spectrum. The title of this man's post was "FoxNews Says NO Just Like GOP". First, he attempts to make it sound as if the FoxNews Channel is not going to air the speech, which is a complete lie. Fox, not FoxNews, is not going to air the speech.

What the writer is trying to imply is that Fox's, not the FoxNews Channel, decision not to air President Obama's speech is somehow a political decision. Fox also decided not to air a speech from former President Bush back in 2001, I suppose that was somehow political as well.

The truth is that Fox's decision not to air either speech is in no way politcal. It has nothing to do with Barack Obama and had nothing to do with George W. Bush in 2001. Fox's news outlet, The FoxNews Channel, will be carrying the speech.
